The unions that make up the strike committee of Airbus have chosen to "pause" the indefinite strike that began on August 25 from tomorrow, despite the fact that the workforce had mostly expressed a desire to continue with the mobilizations, after the meeting held this Tuesday with management, which has reaffirmed the proposal conveyed on September 4.
"With this information, and in light of the centers that have voted 'pause' (return to activity while the strike call remains in effect) and the overall results so closely favoring 'not pausing' the strike in terms of number of people, the circumstances force us to 'pause' the conflict at the gates starting tomorrow Wednesday, September 9, and leave spaces for meetings in assemblies," according to a statement accessed by Europa Press.
In the consultation held this Tuesday, the workforce of Airbus Spain had decided to continue with the indefinite strike with 51.23% support across all centers, compared to 48.7% that leaned towards temporarily halting the protests, which represents a difference of 67 ballots, pending the referendum scheduled for this September on the company's latest offer.
According to union sources confirmed to Europa Press, the San Pablo (Seville) center was the last to vote after the technical problems recorded on Monday, opting to maintain the strike with 266 votes, unlike the plants in Cádiz (94.3% in favor), Illescas (59.7%), Tablada (60.2%) and Albacete, which had already expressed itself last Friday in favor of pausing.
Thus, San Pablo joins Getafe, the main Airbus facility in Spain, where workers agreed on Monday to continue with the strike, with 46.2% of votes against 45.4% who opposed continuing with the stoppages.
These votes come after Airbus and several unions, including ATP, CCOO, and SIPA, which hold the majority of the workforce representation, reached a preliminary agreement on Friday to try to unblock the labor conflict. The Ministry of Industry and Tourism, with the participation of Minister Jordi Hereu, acted as a mediator in an emergency meeting between the union organizations and the company's CEO, Guillaume Faury.
Terms of the agreement and next steps
In the economic plan, the new proposal includes the commitment to pay the real CPI and recover 7.95% of purchasing power, distributed proportionally over four years, until 2029, while in the labor field the current telework agreement is fully maintained.
In this context, the union organizations plan to organize informational assemblies with their membership and the entire workforce in all factories to detail the content of Airbus's final offer. CCOO has indicated to Europa Press that these meetings will be held this Wednesday and Thursday, while SIPA will call the workers "during these days".
The day on Tuesday is also marked by a meeting between Airbus and the unions that make up the strike committee in Getafe, after the recent complaint filed by CGT against Hereu and Airbus before the Constitutional Court for having negotiated outside of these union representations in relation to the pre-agreement from last Friday, according to sources familiar with the process told Europa Press.
