TotalEnergies has appointed Pablo Semolinos as the new general director for renewable and flexible generation businesses, marketing to domestic customers, companies, and institutions, as well as for the electricity and gas trading operations in the wholesale markets in Spain. This is a newly created position that integrates the management of the entire energy value chain in the country, the company reported.
The French energy company indicated that this move, effective from this September 1, is part of its expansion plan in Spain and responds "to the desire to strengthen the coordination of all activities related to gas and electricity."
With this change, Semolinos replaces José Ignacio Sanz at the helm of the company's business in Spain, who has been in charge of electricity and gas activities in the country since September 2025. Sanz will now assume the same functions as general director of the Gas, Renewables & Power (GRP) business in France, leading the division in that market.
The new head of Gas, Renewables & Power of TotalEnergies in Spain, born in Valladolid in 1982, has more than two decades of professional experience within the group.
An Industrial Organization Engineer from the CentraleSupélec in Paris and the Technical University of Berlin, he has held various positions in several areas of the company, including the international gas business and the promotion of new projects.
In his new role, Semolinos will lead the growth of generation, marketing, and wholesale market activities, supported by a renewable portfolio of 3 gigawatts (GW) and a base of over 2.5 million customers, with the aim of accelerating TotalEnergies' aspiration to establish itself as one of the benchmark players in the energy sector in Spain.
To support the new general director in this task, the integrated management of gas, renewables, and electricity in Spain will have a renewed management committee.
Thus, Juan Miguel Herranz will assume the Direction of Health, Safety, and Environment; Borja Guzmán will be the director of Renewable and Flexible Electric Generation; Rosario Cepero will be in charge of the Direction of Electricity and Gas Marketing; José Manuel Gallego will be the director of Large Clients and Energy Solutions; Vianney Leconte will lead Energy Management and Portfolio; Piedad Ollero will be the director of Finance and Information Systems; and Carmen Coto will hold the Direction of People and Corporate Services.
