The International Road Transport Association (Astic) has dissociated the increase in prices of products in supermarkets from the recent rises in transport contracts, derived from the increase in the price of fuels after the conflict in the Middle East.
According to the employers' association, the effect of the transport rate review on the final amount paid by the consumer is minimal and is below one cent per kilo of product.
After the rise in fuel prices and the Government's approval of measures to mitigate its impact on the sector and on citizens as a whole, transport companies have applied increases of 20% to their fares, given that fuel accounts for around 40% of their operating costs.
"However, this increase has a very reduced impact on the final price of the transported product: in the case of a load of 23,000 kilos, the total repercussion is equivalent to less than one cent per kilo of merchandise transported," maintains the association.
To help its associated companies calculate this impact, Astic has launched an online calculator that allows estimating the update of transport costs based on the evolution of fuel prices.
