The national leadership of the PP calls for prudence at this time while the count of the Andalusian elections progresses, although it admits that it sees it as feasible that its candidate, Juanma Moreno, will end up achieving an absolute majority, according to sources from the party's leadership.
After the closing of the polling stations at 8:00 p.m., an optimistic atmosphere prevails in 'Génova', although they insist on the need to be cautious because there are seats that will continue to "dance until the end" due to the distribution of remainders in several provinces. They emphasize that there is no absolute majority "guaranteed" at this point in the scrutiny despite the good expectations, the same sources point out.
The 'popular' party emphasizes that the PP-A led by Moreno could end up doubling the PSOE of Andalusia, the most populous community in the country and which for almost four decades was a bastion under socialist command. In the June 2022 elections, the PP garnered 1.5 million votes (43.13%) and the PSOE just over 883,000 votes (24.09%).
Furthermore, at the PP headquarters, they warn that, if a debacle of the Andalusian PSOE is confirmed, the political blow will be interpreted as a direct defeat of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, given that the socialist candidate, María Jesús Montero, was his first vice president. "If he didn't want readings in a national key, he shouldn't have put his number two there," they remark at the 'popular' party headquarters.
Feijóo throws himself into the Andalusian campaign
The president of the Popular Party has fully committed to the campaign, to the point of spending seven out of the fourteen campaign days in Andalusia, adding another three days in the pre-campaign and traveling more than 12,000 kilometers to support Juanma Moreno.
Feijóo has organized his own electoral caravan, separate from Moreno's, with the aim of "combing" more territory and reaching more municipalities, according to PP sources. In fact, the two only coincided in the middle of the campaign, at an event held on Sunday, May 10, in Malaga.
In the pre-campaign, Feijóo participated in three events. On April 19, he spoke at the Intermunicipal event that the PP of Andalusia held in Cordoba, while on the 22nd and 29th of the same month, he attended two rallies in Lepe (Huelva) and Roquetas de Mar (Almería), respectively.
Already in the official campaign, the PP leader starred in several rallies: on May 3 in Jerez de la Frontera, on May 6 in Guadix (Granada), on May 7 in El Puerto de Santa María, and on May 10 in Málaga. In the final stretch, Feijóo spoke at an event in Tomares (Seville) on May 12 and at another in Bailén on the 14th. The campaign closed on May 15 with a rally in Almería.
Feijóo, who has visited all Andalusian provinces to support the PP's candidate for the Presidency of the Junta de Andalucía, "personally assumes the effort of every electoral campaign as he already did in Extremadura, Aragón, and Castilla y León," according to sources from his team.
The PP president has opted for a campaign of closeness and direct contact with citizens which, in the opinion of the 'populares', contrasts with that of the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, who could not replicate that model "for fear of the reaction of citizens, annoyed with the management of the Government of Spain."
