EH Bildu has demanded the Basque Government's Security Counselor, Bingen Zupiria, to appear in the Basque Parliament to provide explanations about "the violent intervention" carried out by the Ertzaintza during the Carmen festivities in Donostia-San Sebastián.
The parliamentarian Gorka Ortiz de Guinea raises, among other aspects, whether he considers it proportional that "the agents entered with blows and with a violent attitude in the festive area, without heeding the indications of the security officials of the space and causing four people to require attention in Emergencies due to the strong blows inflicted by the ertzainas."
Likewise, Ortiz de Guinea demands that it be detailed "what motivated that violent action and, above all, to explain why the agents entered the space of the txosnas and why they employed that level of violence, despite members of the festival committee trying to calm the situation."
According to the parliamentarian's complaint, "the ertzainas did not heed the words of those who were in charge of the security of the festive area at that moment, although they properly identified themselves and addressed them. Why did they not pay any attention to them? Why did they charge with that violence?" he has questioned.
For the representative of EH Bildu, the action of the Ertzaintza was "disproportionate" and, in his opinion, "cases like this again highlight the need for another police model, based on proximity and that generates trust in the citizenry."
