The groups with representation in the Galician Parliament have reached a unanimous agreement this Tuesday, within the framework of the Board of Spokespersons, to launch a study commission focused on the dairy sector. This is a proposal that arises after the request of the Unións Agrarias union, conceived as a tool to tackle illegal contracts linked to the price of milk.
In the press conference following the meeting of the Xunta de Portavoces, the spokesperson for the Popular Group stressed that the commission will focus on a "strategic sector" for Galicia, "key for the economy, the rural areas, and territorial balance, but which is currently going through a situation of concern due to the fall in the prices of milk at origin that producers receive".
In this regard, he stressed the importance of examining "rigorously" the milk value chain and of proposing "realistic" responses that bring stability to the entire sector.
Thus, he detailed that the commission will have as its task to listen to all the actors involved —producers, industry, agrarian organizations, and experts— with the aim of articulating constructive proposals that facilitate the transition towards a more sustainable, balanced model with future guarantees for livestock farms.
Just as Pazos pointed out, the work will be driven by "dialogue and collaboration, with the intention of reaching a fair price for milk and reinforcing the position of farmers in the food chain".
The understanding between the groups comes after last week all the formations showed themselves favorable to the creation of this body, after the meeting of the general secretary of Unións Agrarias, Roberto García, with the different parties represented in Parliament.
