The Directorate of the Health Area of La Palma and the Directorate General of Public Health of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), integrated into the Ministry of Health, are carrying out an investigation into a possible foodborne illness registered on the island, which so far has affected twenty-four people, all of them with mild clinical symptoms and a favorable prognosis.
The episode originated during a school celebration after a graduation ceremony, held last weekend at a Secondary Education institute on the island.
As detailed by the Ministry in an informative note, among those affected are nineteen minors and five adults.
Upon notification of several suspected cases of "foodborne illness," the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Directorate General of Public Health of the SCS immediately activated the protocol for this type of incident.
To date, twenty-four people with compatible "symptomatology" have been reported, and the established protocol remains in effect, as does the corresponding epidemiological study to monitor the appearance of new cases that may be related to this outbreak.
