The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center (UKMTO, for its acronym in English) communicated this Wednesday the detection of a "strong explosion" that occurred throughout the day near a tanker that was sailing southeast of Aden, Yemen.
This agency, dependent on the British Navy, explained in a brief note disseminated through its social networks that the "incident" occurred "95 nautical miles (about 175 kilometers) southeast of Aden, Yemen" around 16:30 hours (Spanish peninsular time).
According to the UKMTO, "The captain of a tanker reported that he had heard a strong explosion very close to the vessel. The entire crew is safe and has been located. No environmental impact has been reported," before specifying that the competent authorities have initiated investigations to clarify what happened.
