A Syrian Airlines plane coming from Kuwait has landed this Wednesday at Deir Ezzor International Airport, in eastern Syria, ending more than ten years of inactivity caused by instability and the damage suffered by the facilities during the civil war.
The Syrian Aviation Authority has explained on social media that "The launch of this route is part of the efforts of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation and Air Transport to expand the network of air destinations, facilitate passenger travel, support economic and investment activity, and strengthen ties between Syria and Kuwait."
The agency has emphasized that this milestone "marks the resumption of international flights to and from the airport," a progress that "places Deir Ezzor back on the regional air transport map and reinforces air connectivity with brotherly nations."
The rehabilitation work of the aerodrome began at the beginning of this year and concluded in mid-July. As airport authorities pointed out a few weeks ago, only the last regulatory and security procedures prior to its reopening remained, in line with current safety, protection, and quality standards.
