The authorities of China have communicated this Thursday a package of aid composed of one million dollars (860,000 euros) and a shipment of essential emergency items valued at 15 million yuan (about two million euros), with the aim of supporting the response to the 7.4 magnitude earthquake recorded earlier this week in northwestern Colombia, which has caused more than 270 fatalities and around 500 missing persons.
The Chinese ambassador in Bogotá, Zhu Jingyang, has detailed that the Asian giant "will offer financial aid of one million dollars and humanitarian assistance supplies worth 15 million yuan."
The diplomatic representative has emphasized on his social media that this support from Beijing represents a gesture of "solidarity towards the Colombian people."
In parallel, in recent hours the Government of Sweden has communicated a new tranche of support to Colombia, deciding to increase its "humanitarian assistance" to the Latin American country by 525,000 dollars (455,370 euros).
With this increase, the total volume of Swedish aid to Colombia amounts to "7.2 million dollars (just over six million euros) so far this year," according to what the Swedish Foreign Minister, Maria Stenergard, has stated on her social media, who has lamented the "immense suffering" caused by the earthquake.
"The earthquake in Colombia (...) has left many people without shelter, without communications, and without access to basic services. Our thoughts are with the Colombian people and with all the affected individuals. We will continue to support Colombia in these very difficult times and collaborate in its recovery and reconstruction," she added.
