The Colombian authorities have updated this Sunday the balance of the earthquake that shook the northwest of the country last Monday, reducing the number of fatalities to 287 and raising the total number of injured to 4,147, compared to the 289 deaths and 3,937 injured reported in the previous report.
The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) has confirmed these new figures and has also reported an increase in the record of missing persons, which rises from 143 to 194 cases.
The agency has also pointed out a "considerable increase" in the count of material damages following the arrival of new reports from the department of Tolima, in the center-west of the country, as well as the incorporation of more municipalities into the data consolidation process.
According to the latest balance from the UNGRD, the earthquake has affected 472 municipalities and has left 185,996 people affected. Regarding the housing stock, 127,608 houses are counted with damages, 26,392 destroyed, and 197 buildings that have completely collapsed.
To these figures are added significant damages to infrastructure and basic services: 304 health centers, 3,207 educational centers, 4,059 community centers, 410 road sections, 95 aqueducts, 48 vehicle bridges, thirteen pedestrian bridges, and five airports have been affected.
On the other hand, the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences has reported that it has managed to identify 288 of the 298 bodies received so far, among them 21 minors.
