The Electric Union of Cuba (UNE) affirmed this Wednesday that the recent collapse of the National Electric System (SEN) on the island is "the direct consequence" of the "energy asphyxiation orchestrated by the United States" against the country.
"The fall of the SEN is not an accident, it is the direct consequence of the energy asphyxiation orchestrated by the United States," the UNE stated in a statement disseminated on social networks, in which it also maintains that "the blockade" imposed by Washington "is the real crime."
The state-owned company's message was published a few hours after, through the same channel, the Electric Union itself reported that the supply had been "restored" in the SEN, after a new blackout that left a large part of the national territory without electricity.
This new general interruption of service, which occurs less than a week after the previous nationwide blackout, has also been commented on by the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, who stressed that it occurs in a scenario of "maximum asphyxiation" of the Cuban economy and electro-energy sector by Washington.
"The genocidal oil blockade has not been enough. It pursues and sanctions Cuban and foreign companies linked to this strategic area," denounced the chancellor, referring to the different packages of sanctions approved by the Administration of US President Donald Trump.
In this context, Rodríguez lashed out at US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, assuring that "he does not care about the suffering of thousands of families, the hundreds of hospitals without electricity, (or) the loss of food due to lack of refrigeration."
"They condemn the people of Cuba to collective punishment with a single purpose: to destroy the Revolution, its achievements, and its history," added the head of Cuban diplomacy on his official profiles.
These accusations come at a particularly delicate moment for Havana, after more than six decades of a valid embargo on the island and the incorporation, since the beginning of the year, of an energy blockade that has at times caused a total paralysis of supply. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel himself has described this policy as a "genocidal policy" that causes "serious harm" to the Cuban population.
