The agent specialized in the fight against drug trafficking Adrián Mero was murdered on Friday afternoon in Bahía de Caráquez, in the Ecuadorian province of Manabí, becoming the fifth similar case registered in that area in the last 30 days.
Mero, 21 years old, received several shots when he was inside a car wash establishment. He had been assigned for two years to the Unit for Information on Ports and Airports (UIPA) of the National Directorate of Anti-Drug Investigation, although at the time of the attack he was on vacation, according to the broadcaster "Ecuavisa".
Two armed men burst into the establishment, approached the police officer and shot him repeatedly before fleeing.
With this crime, the number of police officers violently murdered in Manabí in the last month rises to five, in a context of a growing offensive against security forces that has also claimed the lives of two former agents.
