The security forces of Israel have shot dead a Palestinian citizen this Friday after an alleged stabbing attempt near one of the access gates to the Old City of Jerusalem.

In a statement released on social media, the Israeli Police has indicated that its forces "prevented a terrorist stabbing" around 3:45 a.m. (local time), when "a 33-year-old assailant and resident of East Jerusalem attempted to stab Border Police officers at the Damascus Gate."

"The officers responded quickly and neutralized him. His death was confirmed at the scene," the statement added, emphasizing that the incident did not leave any injuries among the officers deployed in the area.

Later, the office of the Palestinian governor of Jerusalem accused the Israeli forces of having "executed extrajudicially" the man, identified as Ibrahim al Hindi, 33 years old. "This crime constitutes a flagrant violation of International Law," it denounced.

In a message posted on social media, the office emphasized that "The murder of Al Hindi is a crime against humanity that adds to the crimes and violations committed by the occupying forces and armed settler groups against Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including the city of Jerusalem."

Similarly, it accused the Israeli forces of "kidnapping" Al Hindi's body, which it referred to as "a martyr," and recalled that, so far this year, 17 Palestinians have lost their lives in Jerusalem "in attacks carried out by the occupying forces or armed settler groups."
