The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has expressed his rejection this Sunday of the recent Israeli airstrike launched against the southern neighborhoods of Beirut.

"I strongly condemn today's Israeli attacks in Beirut. The attacks occur despite the ceasefire and at a time when the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran appear to be reaching an agreement that will pave the way for a peaceful resolution of this conflict," Guterres stated.

In his official message, the highest leader of the United Nations stressed that "this conflict is having a devastating impact on the global economy."

Given this situation, Guterres calls on all parties involved to exercise "maximum restraint" at "this crucial moment." "I hope there will be a positive outcome following the efforts of the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran," he concluded.

Sunday's attack targeted a building located in Dahiye, the southern sector of the Lebanese capital considered a stronghold of the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah. After the bombing, US President Donald Trump assured that this attack "should not have happened" and indicated that it would be "hours" before the agreement with Tehran was signed.
