The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has reported the downing, during the past early morning, of a U.S. unmanned aircraft model MQ-1 Predator "that attempted to carry out a hostile operation by entering the territorial waters" of the Central Asian country.
According to a statement released by the semi-official Iranian agency Fars, the Revolutionary Guard forces detected early Sunday the approach of the drone to their airspace with "apparently hostile intentions."
The text explains that the device was located "immediately" by the Iranian air defense systems and "attacked with advanced surface-to-air missiles before it could carry out a planned hostile operation."
The note from the Revolutionary Guard concludes with a serious warning to the outside: "the Iranian airspace over the country's territorial waters is under total control, and any incursion will receive a forceful response."
For the moment, the United States Army has not issued any official reaction nor has it offered its version of what happened.
