The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has denounced this Tuesday that United States planes and drones have violated its airspace in the south of the country and has stressed that it reserves "the right to respond", after the US Army carried out bombings on targets in Iranian territory despite the ongoing ceasefire and talks to close a peace agreement.
In a statement, the elite corps has accused "The terrorist US Army, continuing its interventionist adventures in the region and its aggressive behavior has penetrated Iranian airspace in the Persian Gulf region", while highlighting that air defense systems, activated "to defend the territorial integrity of the country", "identified and shot down an MQ-9 drone".
According to the note, "Likewise, they opened fire on an RQ-4 drone and an F-35 fighter jet that invaded Iranian space, forcing them to flee and abandon our territorial waters", as reported by the public television channel IRIB.
The Revolutionary Guard has recalled that it had previously warned about any violation of the ceasefire and has insisted that it reserves "the legitimate right to respond" to these actions. So far, no casualties or material damage have been reported on Iranian soil.
From the US side, the spokesman for the Central Command (CENTCOM), Captain Tim Hawkins, told Europa Press that Washington's attacks were carried out "in self-defense" with the aim of "protecting" American forces "from the threats posed by Iranian forces", specifying that the targets were vessels and missile launch platforms located in southern Iran.
In parallel, the spokesman for the Iranian Army, Abolfazl Shekarchi, warned this same Tuesday that any offensive against Iran will have "a much more violent response" that "will go beyond the borders of the region", and reiterated that a possible blockade of Iranian crude oil exports would lead Tehran to "prevent the exit of oil" from the Middle East.
