Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced this Friday that, in the last 24 hours, a total of 24 ships have crossed the Strait of Hormuz "in coordination" with the country's forces.
In a statement released by the semi-official Fars agency, the Revolutionary Guard Navy stated that the number of vessels that obtained "authorization" to cross this strategic passage was "higher" than that of the ships that finally made the crossing. However, it insisted that, "to avoid traffic congestion, a certain number must pass each day."
The corps further emphasized that "thanks to (its) actions, the safety of ships in the Strait of Hormuz has been guaranteed along the route designated by Iran."
The Persian Gulf Ports and Maritime Organization (PGSO), an entity created by Tehran to supervise and regulate maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, published a map last week delimiting the contours of its "jurisdiction" in this area, considered one of the main bottlenecks of international trade. This measure is part of the actions undertaken by Iran in response to the aforementioned offensive, launched by surprise on February 28.
