A container ship ran aground this Wednesday in the Strait of Hormuz after entering shallow waters, apparently outside the maritime corridor set by Iran for traffic in the area after the memorandum of understanding with the United States, according to Iranian official media, which for now have not offered further details about what happened.
According to the Iranian public television channel IRIB, the affected vessel, whose name and flag under which it operates have not yet been revealed, remains immobilized after running aground and, for the moment, the exact point in the strait where it has become blocked is unknown.
The Navy of the Revolutionary Guard has reiterated its call to captains and shipowners to transit only through the route authorized by Tehran, with prior coordination, and has warned that the contrary "could cause irreparable incidents".
In recent months, Iranian authorities have stressed that the management of the strait must fall to Tehran and Muscat, as riparian states, and have advocated for the creation of a new control framework, while Washington and other capitals insist that the situation must return to the scenario prior to the conflict, including the absence of possible tolls.
