The main military advisor of the Iranian supreme leader, Mohsen Rezaei, warned this Friday that the United States is exposing itself to a "total" war if it maintains its current bombing campaign for "two or three more days," after Washington attacked the territory of the Islamic Republic for the seventh consecutive night, thus consolidating the military escalation of recent days and rendering the agreement sealed with Tehran just a month ago practically ineffective.
"If the U.S. attacks continue for two or three more days, we will enter a total offensive phase. In a large-scale offensive phase, Iran will no longer settle for retaliation, and no political border will be safe from Iranian aggression," Rezaei warned in statements to the Iranian state channel, IRIB.
The advisor emphasized that, in his opinion, the United States has violated the commitments of the agreement, while Israel would have failed to fulfill its part regarding the withdrawal from southern Lebanon. "The creation of an illegal route through the Strait of Hormuz, despite the opening of the legal Iranian route, the disrespect for the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the military aggression against Iranian shores, and the refusal to release seized assets were some of the points that the United States violated in the memorandum of understanding," he listed, launching a new direct criticism at Washington.
The former commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard thus justified Tehran's decision to close the Strait of Hormuz with the aim of "safeguarding its own security and ensuring the security of the global economy."
In this line, he reiterated Iran's full sovereignty over this key maritime passage, emphasizing that if the Iranian agreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz "are not enforced," "Western Asia will become a conflict scene between global powers over energy." In his words, the United States would be left with "no role" in this strategic route.
For its part, the U.S. military, which has resumed the naval blockade around the Strait of Hormuz as a pressure instrument, stated this Friday that its units deployed in the area have "diverted" four commercial vessels, "deactivated" one, and "boarded" another, as part of the perimeter closure of the maritime passage.
