The spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Rezaei, has assured that Iran will give a "forceful and painful" response tonight to the bombing launched this afternoon by the Israeli Army against southern Beirut, an action that Tehran considers a direct violation of the terms of the ceasefire renewed this very week.
According to the account of the Lebanese authorities, Israel had committed to the Government of Lebanon not to intervene in Hezbollah's stronghold located in the southern area of the capital. However, it finally fired missiles against alleged headquarters of the Shiite militias in the Dahiye area, alleging that attacks against Israeli territory had been carried out from there during the morning. The official Lebanese news agency NNA reports for now at least two dead and eleven injured.
Tehran, Hezbollah's main ally, has made the signing of any peace agreement with the United States conditional on the cessation of violence in Lebanon. In parallel, Israel has intensified its operations in the south of the neighboring country in recent weeks, which the Israeli Army itself describes as an expansion and consolidation of its "security zone" facing the north of its territory.
"These rabid dogs must be disciplined and put in their place," Rezaei stated, amid reports disseminated by Iranian media indicating that the Supreme National Security Council of Iran has met urgently to analyze the Israeli attack.
In messages published on social networks, Rezaei has reiterated that his country will give "a forceful and painful response to the attack by the Zionist regime against Dahiye" in the coming hours. Furthermore, he has issued a direct warning: "Look at the sky of the occupied territories tonight," in allusion to Palestine.
