The Israeli Armed Forces launched a series of bombings this Sunday on neighborhoods in southern Beirut, considered the main stronghold of the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah, which represents a breach of the conditions set in the recent renewal of the ceasefire agreed last Wednesday between the governments of Lebanon and Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have confirmed the offensive and argued that it is an action "in response" to the attacks launched by Hezbollah against Israeli territory during the morning.
"In accordance with the orders of Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz, the IDF has attacked command centers in the Hadahiya neighborhood of Beirut in response to Hezbollah's attack on Israeli territory," Netanyahu's office published on social media.
The Israeli air force has directed its attacks against the Dahiye area, in the southern neighborhoods of the Lebanese capital, despite the ceasefire agreement signed last week between Lebanon and Israel with US mediation, which precisely aimed to prevent an Israeli air offensive on Beirut.
Lebanese media have reported an Israeli bombing in southern Beirut, although for now there is no confirmed data on possible casualties or material damage. Images of a residential building severely affected and other photographs whose authenticity could not be verified at the moment have been disseminated on social media.
Before these attacks, the Israeli Army had communicated the interception of two rockets fired at northern Israel, the first Hezbollah attack on Israeli territory since Wednesday, the date on which the agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon was made public.
