The Jordanian Army reported this Wednesday the interception of ten ballistic missiles launched from Iran as part of its response to the recent bombings by the United States against the Persian country. Authorities also detailed that three other projectiles fell in "remote areas," with no casualties reported.
In an official statement, the military establishment emphasized that "Jordan has been the target in recent hours of a missile attack originating from Iranian territory" and explained that the air defense systems acted "in line with the approved operational procedures" to neutralize the threat.
The Army added that "specialized teams have begun to work in the places where impacts have occurred to secure them and take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of citizens," while asking the population not to approach "unknown objects" located in the affected areas.
Furthermore, it stressed that "our units and formations continue to perform their functions 24 hours a day, and the surveillance and air defense systems are prepared to face any threat in order to preserve the security of the Kingdom, the safety of its citizens, and the sovereignty of its airspace."
For its part, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed late Tuesday a series of attacks against U.S. positions in the region, in retaliation for the recent bombings carried out by the U.S. Army at various points in the country, mostly near the Strait of Hormuz.
In this context, Tehran claimed to have directed its missiles against U.S. interests in Jordanian and Iraqi territory — including the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan — as well as in Kuwait and Bahrain. Following these announcements, the authorities of Bahrain and Kuwait indicated that their air defenses were also responding to attacks from Iranian forces.
