The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, has completed the restructuring of his cabinet, which goes from 14 ministries to only ten after grouping the areas of economy, infrastructure, and employment into three large mega-ministries.
It is the second time since he assumed the head of state that he has decided to reduce the number of ministries, a decision that the president himself links to his objective of suppressing "bureaucratic barriers" and improving the efficiency in the use of public resources.
According to information published by the Ecuadorian newspaper 'El Comercio', Sariha Moya will assume the new portfolio of Economic and Productive Development, which will integrate the former ministries of Economy and Finance, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, and Production.
For their part, the ministries of Infrastructure and Transport, and Telecommunications and Information Society will be unified in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Technology, led by Roberto Luque, which will be responsible for the joint planning of roads, ports, connectivity, fiber optics, digitalization, and technology.
At the same time, the Ministry of Labor and Human Development will absorb the previous portfolios of Labor and Human Development, along with the Secretariat for the Management and Development of Peoples and Nationalities. Under the direction of Cynthia Gellibert, this department will aim to promote the labor insertion of the most vulnerable groups.
"We are going to give greater responsibility to the heads of these ministries and at the same time we are going to optimize and improve the quality so that the citizen feels it, so that the citizen has greater benefits," Noboa stated in an interview this week in which he announced the remodeling.
Noboa began his first administration in November 2023 with a total of 20 ministries, which he reduced to 14 in July of last year after being re-elected for a second term months earlier.
