The Russian authorities have urged the Government of Moldova this Wednesday to "refrain from taking measures" that could further aggravate the already delicate bilateral relationship, after Chisinau decided to call its ambassador in Moscow for consultations following the fall on Moldovan territory of a supposedly Russian drone.
The Russian Embassy in Moldova has interpreted this step as a new way to "further restrict contacts" between both States and has emphasized that not all the necessary data is yet available to ensure that the device is of Russian origin.
"There is a persistent impression that the Moldovan government, pressured by external agents, was deliberately seeking a pretext to further restrict the already limited Russian-Moldovan contacts," the Russian diplomatic mission has criticized, insisting that Moscow remains willing to continue dialogue.
This Monday, Moldovan authorities called their representative in the Russian capital, Lilian Darii, for consultations after a supposedly Russian drone crashed in the town of Crocmaz, in the southeast of the country, about one hundred kilometers from the Ukrainian region of Odesa, a frequent target of attacks by Russia.
According to Chisinau's version, the device exploded in a wooded area after hitting a tree, causing debris to scatter and reach several nearby buildings. Moldovan President Maia Sandu described the incident as a new violation of national airspace attributed to Moscow.
