The Ministry of Unification of South Korea reiterated this Monday its commitment to stability and peace on the Korean peninsula, despite the resurgence of tension with North Korea, and once again defended a "policy of coexistence" that sets aside "hostile acts" likely to trigger a conflict in the region.
The Department's spokesperson, Yoon Min Ho, indicated that the Government plans to present "measures that will allow trust to be rebuilt between the two Koreas in a show of support for President Lee Jae Myung and his commitment to peace," as reported by the Yonhap news agency.
In this regard, he mentioned several "gestures" that, in his opinion, demonstrate Seoul's "sincerity," including the removal of loudspeakers installed in border areas and apologies for sending drones across the border.
Yoon's remarks come after a weekend marked by harsh accusations from Pyongyang, which has lashed out at Seoul for its defense of the peninsula's denuclearization. The North Korean regime even described South Korea as an "enemy state obsessed with hostility and confrontation."
This exchange of recriminations is part of the criticism leveled by Seoul and several European Union countries against military cooperation between Russia and North Korea and their recent strategic partnership.
