The Kremlin highlighted this Tuesday that the initiative of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to establish a truce between Russia and Ukraine in the attacks against energy infrastructure constitutes "a very good idea," after the increase of this type of offensives in recent weeks, in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022.
"In general, we consider this to be a very good idea, a good initiative," affirmed the spokesperson for the Russian Presidency, Dimitri Peskov, according to the Russian newspaper 'Izvestia'. "We are in contact with the Americans. We are always on the side of peaceful solutions," emphasized the representative of the Kremlin.
Peskov also pointed out that a truce of this type would allow the full operation of Russian refineries, although he warned that, by itself, it will not be enough to resolve the tensions in supply in international markets. For that, he noted, it would be necessary to lift the restrictions imposed on exports from Moscow and ensure the safety of oil tankers.
Trump communicated on Monday that both Ukraine and Russia had agreed to stop the attacks against each other's energy infrastructure. "Ukraine has agreed not to attack Russian energy targets. Russia has agreed to do the same!" stated the occupant of the White House in a message disseminated on social media.
Subsequently, the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, confirmed Kiev's willingness to end the attacks against Russian energy infrastructure and also against the food sector and "other critical infrastructures," as long as Moscow adopts the same stance "genuinely."
