The newly constituted Government of Moldova, headed by Vasile Tofan, took office this Wednesday before the president of the country, Maia Sandu, in an official act in which the president of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, also participated. The new cabinet begins its mandate with a roadmap that prioritizes accelerating Moldova's accession process to the European Union.
During the ceremony, Sandu asked the new Executive to "keep its word" and emphasized that the agenda is "clear" because it is necessary to "move forward and fully align Moldova's standards with the European ones," according to information released by the news portal NewsMaker.
The head of State stressed that "in a few months we will reach a great turning point in the integration process. I ask that these efforts be prioritized." She also recalled that "yesterday, in Parliament, we heard great promises about economic growth and improving investments for a more efficient management of public properties."
Tofan, who was ratified by the Legislature as the new prime minister on Tuesday, then defended the need for a more "efficient" State and reiterated his commitment to advance more quickly in the country's accession to the European Union, once he obtained Parliament's approval for the composition of his cabinet.
In presenting his Government program the day before, with which he has committed to boosting the Moldovan economy "while maintaining the European path," the prime minister emphasized the need to achieve more solid economic growth and "strengthen security, peace, and justice" to "contribute to the quality of life and social cohesion."
Tofan admitted that "the problems are many and very complex, but they are not insurmountable. I have a plan for this country and I have enough determination to fight for a stronger economy, to achieve a more efficient State, and to improve people's lives. We have everything we need to continue growing."
In this regard, he emphasized that it is essential that "the institutions and the people move in the same direction; towards greater growth and greater discipline," according to an official statement.
The prime minister also pointed out that among the axes of action of the new Executive are support for the agricultural sector, the modernization of infrastructure, and the transformation of the energy system, which, in his words, "must be safer and more resilient."
According to the Moldovan Constitution, the Government is responsible for implementing the domestic and foreign policy of the country and for generally directing public administration, based on the Program of Activities previously approved by Parliament.
