The wife of the Franco-Moroccan journalist Alí Lmrabet, residing in Spain, Laura Feliu, has explained that the Moroccan authorities who detained her husband on Sunday at Tangier airport have not yet filed any formal charges against him, although "they can summon him," after releasing him this Wednesday.
In statements to Europa Press, Feliu celebrated that Lmrabet has been released, after the Moroccan authorities arrested him for allegedly disseminating "defamatory and injurious statements" against high-ranking officials and institutions of the North African country.
She pointed out that the situation is currently "ambiguous," as there are no charges against him, but before letting him go, they warned him that they could contact him again to follow the evolution of the case.
Feliu indicated that Lmrabet will remain in Morocco for a few days, where he traveled to handle various personal matters, and will subsequently return to Barcelona, the city where he usually resides.
She also specified that the French Consulate in Barcelona has taken an interest in the journalist's situation and has contacted her. Furthermore, she recounted that she has spoken with Spanish senators who have relayed information about the case to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, although she does not know if the French and Spanish governments have carried out any specific actions to secure his release.
According to Feliu, when he returns to his home, Lmrabet will resume his project of launching a website and "will continue with his work."
