The President of the United States, Donald Trump, communicated this Wednesday that he will launch against Iran "the most devastating economic operation ever undertaken," describing "an economic war and unprecedented isolation" with which the White House will impose "tremendous economic consequences" on any country that allows any kind of support to Tehran through its institutions or companies.
"I announce the most devastating economic operation ever undertaken against any country. It will be an economic war and unprecedented isolation," declared the Republican magnate on social media.
In the same message, the leader warned of "tremendous economic consequences" for any state that "allows its financial institutions, companies, airports, or government entities to provide any kind of assistance to Iran."
"Oil smuggling, exchange lines, cash transfers, currency exchanges, ship registries, shell companies: all of this must end now. You know who you are," he pointed out, labeling his announcement as an "economic D-Day," a direct reference to the Normandy landing in World War II, considered a decisive moment of the Allied offensive against the Nazi occupation in Western Europe.
Immediately afterward, and leaving behind the more threatening tone of the earlier messages, Trump appealed for international cooperation: "We need all our allies to join the United States to isolate and defeat the Iranian threat," he emphasized.
"These fanatics are on the ropes, and these historic measures will weaken them and prevent them from sowing terror around the world," he stated, before closing his remarks by assuring that "Iran will never have a nuclear weapon."
