The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Saturday that he has decided to appoint lawyer James McDonald as the next federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). The lawyer will take over from Jay Clayton, who was appointed last Thursday to the position of Director of National Intelligence following the recent departure of Tulsi Gabbard for personal reasons.
"I am pleased to announce my intention to nominate James M. McDonald as United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. A native of the great state of Oklahoma, Jamie previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York and was Chief Compliance Officer at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission during my first term," he celebrated in a post on his social media.
Furthermore, Trump emphasized that McDonald currently practices as a partner at the firm Sullivan & Cromwell, served as a law clerk to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and has a strong academic background from the law schools of Harvard and the University of Virginia. The appointment must be subsequently ratified by the Senate to become effective.
"I am confident that Jamie will do an outstanding job for our Country, as he is respected by our patriots in law enforcement, the legal community, and the judiciary, and will work fantastically with them," the US leader informed.
