The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andri Sibiga, reported this Tuesday that two Ukrainian citizens were injured in the attack carried out by Iran against United Arab Emirates oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. The head of Ukrainian diplomacy condemned the incident, emphasizing the need for an "immediate cessation of hostilities" and "the full reopening of the strait."
"We strongly condemn the Iranian missile attacks against Emirati oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, as a result of which two Ukrainian citizens were injured," he stated.
Sibiga added that Ukrainian diplomatic missions in the United Arab Emirates and Oman are working "to provide the necessary assistance to the injured Ukrainians."
In the same vein, he lashed out at armed actions directed against commercial maritime traffic, warning that they "threaten regional stability, freedom of navigation, and global energy security." "We call for the immediate cessation of hostilities and the full reopening of the strait," he argued.
The Emirati authorities accused Iran on Monday of having launched cruise missiles against two United Arab Emirates-flagged oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. According to their preliminary assessment, the attack left at least one dead and eight injured, four of them in serious condition.
"The national oil tankers 'Mombasa' and 'Al Bahia' were targeted by two Iranian cruise missiles in the southern stretch of the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani territorial waters," the Emirati Ministry of Defense reported in a message published on social media.
