The British Foreign Ministry has summoned the Iranian chargé d'affaires in London, Ali Nasimfar, for consultations due to the alleged role of the Revolutionary Guard's Quds Force in coordinating allied groups to carry out several attacks in different parts of Europe between March and May.
"Mr. Ali Nasimfar has been summoned in response to the role played by the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in directing the Islamic Movement of the Righteous Companions to carry out a series of attacks across Europe between March and May," a spokesperson for the British Foreign Office said in statements included in a press release by the same ministry.
In this context, the spokesperson stated that the Revolutionary Guard's actions "seek to undermine the security of the United Kingdom" and "its allies," emphasizing that it has not "ceased its hostile activity," but rather, on the contrary, "has sought to intensify its malevolent behavior, which is totally unacceptable."
The summons comes after the UK government proposed including the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in a list of organizations that can be prosecuted with new powers by being treated as foreign intelligence services under the National Security Act. The aim is to respond to operations by groups supported by foreign powers, in a context that London interprets as a wave of attacks driven by actors linked to Iran or Russia.
"We will take all necessary measures to protect the British people. Threats from foreign states will not be tolerated, and the measures we have taken this week—including the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps under new powers regarding state threats—are intended to unmask and thwart the efforts of those acting on their orders," the statement's lines recalled.
