The Minister of the Interior of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, has assured this Friday that there is no type of tsunami warning "anywhere in the country" after the strong earthquakes registered on Thursday, which have caused at least 235 deaths and more than 4,000 injuries. With this message, the leader seeks to convey "calm" to the population.

From La Guaira, the area most affected by the seismic movements, Cabello has stressed that there is "absolute calm in Venezuelan waters" and has emphasized that the Executive "is deployed working together with the people," as reported by the television channel Telesur.

"We want to make a complaint: unscrupulous people, who are only looking to harm our people and the people of La Guaira, have let the unhealthy, malicious rumor spread that there is a tsunami alert. We want to inform responsibly that there is no tsunami alert anywhere in Venezuela," Cabello indicated.

The minister has denounced that these groups "are using the pain and causing anguish to our people, they deserve 'the condemnation of all Venezuelans, of all citizens of La Guaira, where we are experiencing a very difficult situation.' 'I ask for total condemnation,' he added.

"It is a lie, it is a terrible 'fake,' with an unhealthy intention against a noble people. We ask for maximum calm. We are deployed throughout the most affected areas and continue to work with machinery and rescue teams. Every time we hear an ambulance, it is a life saved, a Venezuelan who has been rescued with a chance to live. Everyone driving a car or motorcycle must move aside so that this ambulance can circulate," he clarified.
