The president of the PP in Catalonia, Alejandro Fernández, has called on his own party this Tuesday to abandon "its obsession" with Catalan businessmen, whom he defines as "pyromaniac firefighters" for having promoted the 'procés' and, in his opinion, now presenting themselves to "put out the fire".

"We must forget about this obsession with them once and for all," Fernández reiterated in an interview on 'Esradio', reported by Europa Press. In that conversation, he directly pointed to the Catalan employers' association for intending to quell the Catalan 'procés' conflict "while charging for it" and encouraged focusing attention on other elites, such as academic or cultural ones, which "for some reason have looked the other way."

"What we are not going to do is accept the idea that we must always do whatever they want," he added, warning that maintaining this strategy carries the risk that they will continue to support the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. "They will know," he hinted, leaving his warning hanging in the air.

At the same time, he criticized that they "act offended" because the 'popular' party rejects the new regional financing model, about which he stressed that it comes from the republican Oriol Junqueras, who is "disqualified for serious crimes against democracy."

The Catalan PP leader has framed these remarks within the words spoken last week by his party leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to Catalan businessmen during the 41st meeting of the Círculo de Economía in Barcelona.

In that forum, Feijóo urged political parties to do everything in their power in the face of what he considers an unsustainable situation, but made it clear that he would not ask for "favors" nor grant them to bring forward the general elections. Furthermore, he stressed that he does not intend to seek "shortcuts" because "what needs to be addressed is the country's situation."

"Illa is the Zapatero of our era"

On another note, Fernández stated that the President of the Catalan Generalitat, Salvador Illa, is "the Zapatero of our era" and maintained that he was the one who allowed former Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos, his former advisor Koldo García, and the former PSOE organization secretary Santos Cerdán to "get into the heart of" Health in the context of the 'mask case'.

In this regard, he has considered "undisputed" the political responsibility both in that Ábalos, Koldo and Cerdán acquired "60 million euros" in defective masks from "the ministry that he (Illa) directed" and in that the PSC plays "a leading role in the management of the state's sewers that is currently the PSOE".

"Illa is the Zapatero of our era," Fernández has stressed, linking this comparison with the different cases of alleged corruption affecting the PSOE and with the situation of former President of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, when asked about the relations between Pedro Sánchez and the current Catalan president.
