The King of England, Charles III, has sent his condolences to King Felipe VI for the devastating fire declared in the Almerian municipality of Los Gallardos, which has so far caused the death of 12 people.
The British ambassador to Spain, Alex Ellis, stated this Sunday on his social media profiles that Charles III has sent "a message of condolences to His Majesty King Felipe" on his own behalf and that of Queen Camilla, conveying "his deepest sympathy and solidarity with those affected by this tragedy."
Ellis also expressed, on behalf of the United Kingdom, his relief at the news of the fire's stabilization and showed his recognition to the British consulate staff "in support of British citizens and their families, which will continue as long as necessary."
The ambassador concluded by thanking the emergency services for "their continued bravery and dedication" and reiterated his "solidarity with those affected and with the families facing moments of enormous anguish and uncertainty."
Twelve dead, eight missing, and 7,000 hectares devastated
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, reported this Sunday that the fire, now declared stabilized, has burned about 7,000 hectares and forced the evacuation of around 1,600 residents, who have been allowed to return to their homes.
To date, eight complaints have been filed with the Guardia Civil for missing persons in connection with this event, which has claimed the lives of 12 victims not yet fully identified. For this purpose, the genetic profile of all bodies has been obtained, which will be compared with that of their possible relatives.
Moreno explained that an "imposing search device" composed of nearly a hundred professionals continues to comb the affected areas with the aim of "completely finishing the search" for possible victims, although he admitted that everyone's main wish is that "no more" deceased appear.
