The PP and Vox demanded this Wednesday the departure of the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, whom they accuse of lying about his contacts with the so-called 'PSOE plumber', Leire Díez, and with the general director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González. In addition, they reproach him for having "sold himself to the sewer," according to the words of 'popular' deputy Ana Vázquez, who maintains that the minister "has betrayed everything he was" during his time as a judge in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
In her speech in Congress, where Marlaska appeared to explain the circumstances of the death of two civil guards on May 8 in Huelva during an operation against drug trafficking, Vázquez stated that, "under normal democratic conditions," both the minister and the head of the Civil Guard "would have resigned weeks ago."
The PP parliamentarian accused the head of the Interior of having "lied to the face of all Spaniards" by denying Leire Díez's meetings with Mercedes González, meetings that the director herself acknowledged this Tuesday in the Senate and which, according to Vázquez, aimed to "attack the Civil Guard itself in the cases of PSOE corruption they are investigating."
Accusations of yielding control and pressure
Vázquez emphasized that Leire Díez "boasted of having absolute control over the leadership of the Civil Guard." In her opinion, "this could only happen for one reason: because you yielded it to her. You yielded control of the Civil Guard to the PSOE's sewer. You allowed Leire to try to sabotage the investigations that the UCO was carrying out. And the question is, in exchange for what? What is your price, Mr. Minister? You are sold out to the lowest interests of the PSOE," she declared.
The deputy urged Marlaska to clarify whether he informed the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of these meetings when he became aware of them, and reproached him for not having removed the commanders involved in this case, in addition to accusing him of "covering up leaks of investigations to the corrupt."
The PP spokesperson went further, accusing the minister of "having a cum laude doctorate in judicial interference." In her speech, she stated: "You showed them the way to the sewers. You are much worse than Leire. Leire was never a judge, Leire never fought against crime, Leire never embodied regeneration. You did. Leire was a sewer from the beginning, you sold yourself to the sewer and the price you were willing to pay to sell yourself this way was to betray everything you were. Stand up and leave, Mr. Minister."
Vox accuses Marlaska of lying to Spain and the Civil Guard
From Vox, deputy Ignacio Gil Lázaro also demanded Marlaska's resignation "with greater emphasis," considering that it has been "reliably proven" that the minister has lied "to Spain, to the Chamber" and to the Civil Guard, providing cover, in his words, "for the dealings of the socialist sewer."
Gil Lázaro recalled that, when the first recording of the 'PSOE plumber' became known, both Marlaska and the director general of the Civil Guard maintained "a shameful silence," and that, when the UCO report confirmed that González had met with Leire Díez, the minister "jumped into the arena" to insist that everything was false.
The Vox deputy also recalled that the Interior Minister denied last week in the Senate that the director general had held meetings with Leire Díez and that, that same night, the Directorate General of the Civil Guard admitted that there had been contacts. "It was lamentable, pitiful, pathetic to see him the next day stammering nervously before the press," he stated.
According to Gil Lázaro, "you have spent a year denying this fact simply to protect the sewer, the Sanchista sewer," and concluded that neither Marlaska nor Mercedes González can claim to have made "honor their main motto," something that, he stressed, the Civil Guards who wear the uniform "with honor" can affirm.
