The PP senator and mayor of Aguilar de Campoo, María José Ortega, was injured this Saturday in a traffic accident that occurred in the province of Palencia. The politician was transferred by air ambulance to the University Hospital of Burgos after suffering a head-on collision on the provincial road PP-2201.
The accident occurred shortly before 2:25 PM, at kilometer 3 of the road, when Ortega was returning to Aguilar de Campoo after attending a festive event in Menaza, a district of the Palencia municipality.
Also traveling in the vehicle were the councilor for Urban Planning, Works, and Finance of the Aguilar de Campoo City Council and provincial deputy, Jesús Sevilla, along with his wife and daughter. All of them were injured and received medical attention.
Transferred by helicopter to the University Hospital of Burgos
María José Ortega was evacuated by air ambulance to the University Hospital of Burgos, where she is receiving medical attention after the accident.
Some reports indicate that the senator was transferred to the ICU of the hospital, awaiting the completion of tests to determine the exact extent of her injuries.
The other occupants of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transferred to the Río Carrión Hospital in Palencia for evaluation.
A head-on collision on the PP-2201
The accident took place on the provincial road PP-2201, in the vicinity of Menaza. According to initial reports, the car in which the mayor was traveling was hit in a head-on collision by another vehicle.
The causes of the accident are still under investigation.
Following the alert, a large emergency response was mobilized, with the intervention of Sacyl medical personnel, Traffic Civil Guard, Local Police, and the 112 Castilla y León Emergency service.
They were returning from an event in Menaza
María José Ortega and the other occupants of the vehicle were returning from Menaza, where they had participated in a festive and religious event.
It was during the journey back to Aguilar de Campoo that the collision occurred. The car was driven by Jesús Sevilla, councilor for Urban Planning, Works, and Finance of the Aguilar City Council and provincial deputy.
A woman was traveling in the other vehicle involved, according to initial reports published.

María José Ortega Gómez is the mayor of Aguilar de Campoo and a senator of the Popular Party for Palencia in the XV Legislature.
