The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Parliamentary Relations, Félix Bolaños, maintains that the Government is "aligned" with the message of Pope Leo XIV regarding peace and the issue of migration, which he considers the two main axes of discussion on a global scale, while emphasizing the Executive's respect for disagreements on matters such as abortion and euthanasia.
"In the two major debates, not just in Spain, not just in Europe, but in the world, which are the defense of peace, the defense of international law, and the defense of human dignity, the Pope's discourse is absolutely concordant and coherent with the Government's position," he stated after the Pontiff delivered a speech in the Plenary Hall of the Congress of Deputies.
As the minister explained, the Pontiff defended the need to support peace, the diplomatic path, human rights, and respect for international law, rejecting the imposition of "the law of the strongest," in clear allusion to the ongoing armed conflicts in the world, such as those in the Middle East and Ukraine.
In the area of migration, Bolaños pointed out that the Pope called for support for the most vulnerable, "those who have nothing," who arrive mainly in Europe and the United States—the country of origin of Robert Prevost—in search of a future they cannot find in their home countries.
"These are two lines of the Pope's discourse with which the Government is absolutely aligned," indicated the minister, emphasizing that Pedro Sánchez's Executive defends diplomacy, international law, and the intrinsic dignity of all people "wherever they come from."
