The co-spokesperson of Podemos, Pablo Fernández, has demanded the resignation of the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, following the "police brutality" that, in his opinion, an agent exercised against a teacher during the protests in defense of public education in Valencia.
Likewise, he has maintained that the Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, must also leave her post if the "brute" involved in this alleged assault is not definitively removed from the Corps.
Fernández made these statements at a press conference held this Monday, after the controversy led the National Police to initiate the process to open a disciplinary file against the agent. In parallel, the affected teacher has filed a complaint for what happened.
The leader has stressed that the disseminated recordings of the police action in Valencia are an "authentic shame" and has considered it "lamentable" that Bernabé announces an investigation when, in his opinion, the video is "very revealing" of what happened.
"There is nothing to investigate, what needs to happen is for responsibilities to be immediately purged. The one who perpetrated that assault yesterday on the retired teacher in Valencia must be immediately expelled from the National Police. Otherwise, Pilar Bernabé should resign and, of course, the one who must resign is the highest responsible person in the Ministry of the Interior who has been superfluous in this Government for a long time, who should never have been in a progressive Government," he remarked.
The spokesperson for Podemos has described as "indecent" and an "authentic shame" that these behaviors occur within the State Security Forces and Corps, and has also lashed out at the president, Pedro Sánchez, for having appointed Marlaska as head of the Interior.
In the same way, he has defined as "execrable" and "vomitive" the stance of police unions such as CEP and has warned that "the most dangerous fascism is that which is embedded in the state apparatus."
SUMAR DEMANDS RESPONSIBILITIES TO BE PURGED
On behalf of Más Madrid, the leader Eduardo Fernández Rubiño celebrated in a press conference with other Sumar forces that a file has been opened against this police officer after an action he described as "so lamentable."
Furthermore, he has criticized that it is "striking" that a police response "so different" has become commonplace depending on the ideology of those demonstrating, especially when it comes to people with progressive positions. Therefore, he has called for the investigation to go to the end and for all corresponding responsibilities to be assumed.
For his part, the IU leader and spokesperson for Sumar in the Interior Commission of Congress, Enrique Santiago, has stated on social media that the "brutal action of the agent was not adequate" and that he "used disproportionate force."
"No congruence, no opportunity, no proportionality," he reiterated, before defending that "the Police need democratic unions committed to citizenship and professionalism."
IU ASKS INTERIOR FOR EXPLANATIONS
In parallel, the deputies of the plurinational group Nahuel González, Txema Guijarro, Toni Valero, and Santiago himself have registered a battery of parliamentary questions to demand explanations from the Ministry of the Interior.
These parliamentarians, all IU militants except Guijarro, maintain that "police violence against peaceful demonstrators cannot continue to be allowed" and demand "real consequences and a change within the State Security Forces and Corps" that ensure that "we will never have to suffer or see images of such severity and cruelty" as those of the disseminated aggression.
"In view of the facts," the deputies delve into these questions addressed to the Interior, "it seems evident that a bias on the part of a good portion of the National Police agents against" certain types of demonstrators is currently still in force.
