The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, defended this Thursday that judicial independence constitutes "an essential pillar" of democracy in Spain and emphasized that a Justice "free from political pressures is more necessary than ever."

These statements were made after attending the solemn opening of the judicial year, presided over by King Felipe VI in the Plenary Hall of the Supreme Court, where the president of the high court and the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Isabel Perelló, and the Attorney General of the State, Teresa Peramato, spoke.

Feijóo referred to Perelló's intervention, who criticized the "disqualifications" of "those who hold institutional responsibilities" against judges before the monarch, demanding respect for the resolutions of the courts, given that, as he emphasized, they are adopted "without yielding to influences, pressures, or interferences of any kind."

"I take the words of the president of the CGPJ"

"I take the words of the president of the CGPJ at the opening of the Judicial Year: judicial independence is an essential pillar of our democracy," the leader of the PP pointed out in a message published on the social network 'X', quoted by Europa Press.

In a context of the beginning of the judicial course marked by the confrontation between the Government and Justice regarding the 'grandchildren's law' and the situation in Ceuta after the massive entry of migrants, Feijóo emphasized that "in 2026 defending the separation of powers and a Justice free from political pressures is more necessary than ever."
