The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, defended this Monday that the European Union must protect the southern border in Ceuta with the same determination with which it supports Ukraine in the east. At the same time, he criticized the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, for stating that the Moroccan authorities acted "intelligently" in managing the massive entry of migrants at the end of July when, he insisted, "the territorial integrity" of Spain has been "violated."
"Is acting intelligently facilitating the entry of 80,000 people from Morocco into Ceuta? Is that being intelligent? It is evident that Morocco defends Morocco, the PP defends Spain, and the president of the Government and the Socialist Party do not know who they defend," Feijóo indicated in statements to the media in Madrid.
In this line, the leader of the PP emphasized that stating that "the Moroccan security forces have acted intelligently by allowing 80,000 people to enter" and "violating the territorial integrity" of the neighboring country represents, in his opinion, "a lack of responsibility" and "an indolence unworthy of a European prime minister."
He asks the EU to "defend its southern border"
Looking ahead to the visit he will make next Monday, September 21, to Ceuta — the fourth in almost 50 days — Feijóo has announced that he will demand that the community institutions "defend their southern border" because, he said, "it is as important as the eastern border," reminding that "all the countries of the European Union" support that country "despite the fact that it is not part of the European Union."
"Now, when there is territory that is part of the European Union, and that is, therefore, European territory, we have to tell our colleagues, regardless of their ideological approach, that we must defend the territorial integrity of Europe," he stated.
Feijóo made these statements at a press conference in Madrid alongside the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, after touring the public housing promotion in rental regime Cañaveral 7.
