The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will travel this Monday, July 13, to the areas damaged by the forest fire in Los Gallardos (Almería), declared last Thursday the 9th and declared stabilized this Sunday, after causing the death of twelve people in the first hours of its advance.
As the Government has reported, he will be accompanied on his tour of the affected areas by the third Vice President and Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen.
During his stay in the province, the head of the Executive will visit the Advanced Command Post set up in Turre (Almería) and will meet with those responsible for the emergency and coordination devices operating in the vicinity of the fire. At the end of the visit, he is scheduled to make an institutional statement.
Pedro Sánchez's trip to Almería has forced the postponement of the visit he had scheduled for the same day to La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), where he was to participate in the institutional act of demolition of the fence separating the municipality from Gibraltar, a ceremony that will finally be held on Wednesday the 15th.
The President of the Government and Sara Aagesen will visit the areas affected by the Los Gallardos fire after the Ministers of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños; and of Defense, Margarita Robles, have visited the aforementioned advanced command post since last Friday.
The Minister of Defense also traveled this Sunday to the El Marchal area, in Lubrín (Almería), and previously explained in a press conference alongside the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, that the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) will maintain its deployment in the fire area "for as long as necessary" even though the fire is stabilized and the operational situation of the emergency has moved from level 2 to 1.
The President of the Junta specified this Sunday that the fire has devastated about 7,000 hectares and caused the evacuation of around 1,600 people, although all of them have already received authorization to return to their homes.
In what goes of 2026, Pedro Sánchez has traveled to Andalusia on the occasion of other tragic episodes registered in the community in recent months, such as the railway accident of Adamuz (Córdoba) last January 18, or the storms that caused floods last winter in different parts of the region, among them the town of Grazalema in Cádiz, which had to be completely evacuated temporarily.
