The Royal House has indicated that it continues to "closely monitor the deployment of the operation on the island of Tenerife in anticipation of the arrival of the ship MV Hondius" and has underlined that it maintains a permanent communication channel with both the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Canary Executive, Fernando Clavijo, as it has disseminated on its official account on the social network X.
In relation to the activated device, the Ministers of Health, Mónica García; of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, together with the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, have appeared before the media this Saturday night to emphasize that both Tenerife and Spain as a whole have the necessary means to receive the cruise ship MV Hondius.
Upon arrival at the port of Granadilla, the Minister of Health has emphasized that "everything is ready" to attend to the passengers and part of the crew of the cruise ship "with the utmost guarantees," both for the general population and for "public health." Tedros, for his part, said that hantavirus "is not COVID", although he assured that they "do not" take it "lightly". In this way, he reiterated that "the risk to the local population is low" and that the Government of Spain has "made all preparations to prevent any problems". "Tenerife is ready and prepared. Likewise, García has detailed that the operation launched is "unprecedented" and that it has required intense collaboration and coordination between "23 countries involved".
