The National Intelligence Center (CNI) sent on July 29 at 18:26 hours an informative note classified as "early warning" directed to the secret services of Morocco. In that document, it warned of a possible "assault on the fence of Ceuta" planned for July 30, during the week of the Throne Festival in the neighboring country.
According to the reports declassified by the Government, the CNI informed the Moroccan side that "in recent days, knowledge has been obtained of the planning of several calls to carry out entries to Ceuta, both by swimming and through the fence, taking advantage of the celebration of the Throne Festival," as stated in the alert sent to the DGST and the DGED of Morocco.
In that communication, Spanish intelligence detailed the existence of particularly active profiles on social networks. Among them, it mentioned a Whatsapp group called "Assault on the fence of Ceuta," whose administrator had "two phones, one Spanish and one Algerian." Their identity is concealed in the documentation for security reasons.
Calls on social networks during the Throne Festivals
The report also referred to a Facebook group called Ceuta Fnideq, with more than 160,000 members, where messages encouraging crossing into Spanish territory were disseminated. In one of those messages, it was stated: "Anyone who wants to cross has one last opportunity during the Throne festivals; at eight, the authorities will be distracted with the celebration and the parades," according to the CNI note.
The intelligence information also included another Facebook group, Hraga Ceuta, with more than 22,000 members. In this case, no specific day was set for the crossing, although it was highlighted that "the call would be favorable throughout the week." One of the messages disseminated in that forum stated: "Castillejos-Ceuta: all week is good for those who want to pass, this is the opportunity; may God facilitate it for you."
The document sent to the Moroccan intelligence services concluded with an explicit request for cooperation. The CNI indicated that, "in case of obtaining new data on the matter, they will be promptly forwarded to your Service; your invaluable and continuous collaboration in this matter is appreciated," thus emphasizing the need to maintain coordination in the face of possible irregular entries during the celebrations of the Throne Festival.
