The general secretary of the CUP, Non Casadevall, has considered the device of the Mossos d'Esquadra during the antifascist demonstration held this Friday in Barcelona, called to protest against a mobilization of Núcleo Nacional coinciding with the Diada, unforgivable and "unjustifiable".
From Cardedeu (Barcelona), where the formation held a National Table this Saturday to kick off the new political course, Casadevall denounced that the Mossos "on orders from the PSC, lay out a red carpet for the extreme right so that they can express themselves in the streets while repressing any demonstration of young independents".
The Catalan police explained that they made a "punctual use" of the defenses with the aim of stopping attempts to break the established police cordon, and that there were reports of stone, bottle, pyrotechnic device, and paint throwing against the agents. As a result, 18 people were arrested, of which 10 were minors.
Start of the political course
In relation to the start of the political course, Casadevall emphasized that the CUP intends to continue being "the only leftist and independentist opposition to the Govern".
"We see many other political forces confused and wanting to do politics in Madrid and not politics in Catalonia," said the leader of the anti-capitalist formation.
Looking at the municipal elections of 2027
Casadevall also focused on the upcoming municipal elections of 2027 and defended that "the municipalist bet must be a national bet". In his opinion, it is from the municipalities that a decent housing, adequate working conditions, and containment of "touristification" can be guaranteed.
He has held the PSC responsible for the situation that Catalonia is going through, marked by an emergency in housing, education, and public services, and warned that without a "national proposal" it will not be possible to respond to these crises.
