The Government has emphasized this Saturday its commitment to ensuring that "freedom of the press" is guaranteed "at all times and in all parts of the world" and has confirmed that it maintains communication with the Moroccan authorities after the expulsion of a group of journalists from the town of Castillejos (Fnideq), where a news team from RTVE was working.
Sources from Moncloa have specified that the Embassy of Spain in Rabat "is in permanent contact with the affected journalists and with the Moroccan authorities" and that a "solution" to the incident is being "sought."
The reaction of the Executive comes after the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE) expressed its "strongest rejection" of the decision by the Moroccan authorities to order the news team to leave Castillejos while covering the movements and social situation in the area around the border with Ceuta. As detailed by the public Corporation, the order was communicated verbally with the sole argument of "following instructions" and was carried out "without any formal explanation."
The president of RTVE, José Pablo López, defined what happened as a "serious obstacle to freedom of the press and the right to information" and demanded from the Moroccan authorities "full guarantees and maximum respect" so that journalists can carry out their work "freely" in the border area.
