The deputy secretary of Autonomic Policy, Local and Electoral Analysis of the PP, Elías Bendodo, has lashed out at the "indolence" that, in his opinion, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, shows in the face of the migratory crisis that Ceuta is going through. At the same time, he has criticized the "lack of explanations" offered by the Executive about what happened in the autonomous city.
"The President of the Government and none of his ministers have given real explanations of what has happened and they have not guaranteed us that it will not happen again. What has to happen in Spain for the president to suspend his vacation and take charge of the crisis?" he pointed out in a media attention this Wednesday in Málaga.
Bendodo has insisted that the central Government has reacted "late and poorly" with the initiative to set up temporary camps to accommodate the migrant people who remain in Ceuta, a measure that, he has pointed out, comes when the situation is already overwhelmed.
"Here the solution is to apply the law, everyone who has entered illegally must leave. Each and every one of them, both adults and minors," he has stated, emphasizing afterwards that "Ceuta is very far from normality" due to, he said, "the neglect of the Government."
In his intervention, the popular leader has questioned the continuity of the coalition Executive if it does not assume its responsibilities: "If you neither govern, nor legislate, nor approve budgets, nor give explanations of the problems that we Spaniards suffer, why do you continue in government, it would be best to call elections," he has noted.
In relation to Sánchez's figure, the deputy secretary of the PP maintains that "he has started to threaten those who criticize and try to silence those who denounce something uncomfortable." "They have done it with judges, prosecutors, civil guards, journalists in all cases where someone said something that affected the government of the Socialist Party," he has asserted, accusing the Executive of trying to silence critical voices.
Bendodo has extended "this strategy" to the PSOE of Ceuta. "The Socialist Party of Ceuta, which is enduring this situation, are the ones who denounce what the government is doing wrong. And they also denounce the internal pressures that exist for criticizing the management of Pedro Sánchez's government, which is what is truly serious," he has pointed out, referring to internal tensions within the socialist ranks.
"In a democracy, hiding the truth and lying to the people is very dangerous," he has reaffirmed, warning of the consequences that, in his opinion, the lack of transparency of the Government has on such a sensitive issue as migration policy.
Regarding a possible reinforcement of border control through agents of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), Bendodo has stated that the Government "has a conversation about how to reinforce the borders, whether with national means or with help." In his view, this cooperation should be specified as soon as possible to guarantee security at the Ceuta border.
