Doña Leonor de Borbón has been distinguished this Wednesday with the Gold Medal of the Regional Assembly of Murcia, the highest recognition granted by the regional Parliament, in an institutional ceremony full of solemnity held in the Patio de los Ayuntamientos of the Chamber, in Cartagena.
Upon her arrival at the vicinity of the legislative headquarters, the Princess of Asturias was received by the president of the Murcian Government, Fernando López Miras; the president of the Assembly, Visitación Martínez; the Government delegate, Francisco Lucas; the Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, and the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo.
Once inside the building, Her Royal Highness, who wore the daily uniform of significant relevance as an Air Force second lieutenant, greeted the members of the Chamber's Board, former Parliament presidents, and the spokespersons of the four represented groups.
Subsequently, the secretary general lawyer of the regional Parliament, Encarnación Fernández de Simón, proceeded to read the decree for the awarding of the Gold Medal, which the president presented to Doña Leonor in the presence of the regional deputies, seated on the sides of the hall in alphabetical order.
After the presentation, Her Royal Highness moved to the Salón del Príncipe to sign the Golden Book of the Regional Assembly, where she expressed her gratitude for a distinction that "honors" her and "binds her forever" to the inhabitants of the Region of Murcia.
For this ceremony, the Princess of Asturias wore the Grand Cross of Military Merit, the Grand Cross of Naval Merit, the Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III, and the insignia of the Order of the Holy Christ of Portugal on her uniform.
Recognitions in San Javier
Following the ceremony in Cartagena, official activities moved to San Javier, where the heir to the Crown received the Gold Medal of the Town and the title of Adoptive Daughter of the municipality from the mayor, José Miguel Luengo.
The City Council grants these distinctions following the Princess's training period at the AGA (General Air Academy), where she completed her theoretical and practical preparation during this course, which included a flight plan with the Pilatus C-21 training aircraft.
The event takes place, moreover, just one day after the Princess of Asturias became the first member of the Royal Family to make a parachute jump, after completing the Basic Parachuting Course at the 'Fernández Parada' Military Parachuting School, at the Alcantarilla Air Base (Murcia).
After finishing the event in San Javier, the entourage headed to the city of Murcia for the institutional reception at the Palacio de San Esteban, headquarters of the regional Executive, where she is expected to receive the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia from the regional president, Fernando López Miras.
