Vox will present a resource before the Supreme Court against the resolution of the Central Electoral Board (JEC) in which the arbitral body maintains that it lacks the competencies to intervene regarding the nationalizations of descendants of Spaniards derived from the 'grandchildren's law', despite a part of its members noting an "irregular increase" in the electoral roll.
The JEC had requested a report from the Electoral Census Office on the application of the 'grandchildren's law' in the update of the census, with special attention to whether the declarations of voters requesting to register in a municipality different from their last residence in Spain are reviewed. At the same time, it declared itself incompetent to act, arguing that the procedure for obtaining nationality through this route is outside its scope of action.
However, four of the thirteen members that make up the JEC distanced themselves from that decision and, in a particular vote, warned that there has been an "irregular increase" in the electoral roll. In their opinion, the instruction from the Ministry of Justice to apply the 'grandchildren's law' allowed more people to access nationality than those contemplated in the very Democratic Memory Law that it intended to develop.
Sources from Vox share the opinion of those dissenting members and maintain that the JEC is indeed authorized to intervene, since those nationalizations directly impact the electoral roll, an "alteration of the electoral roll" that the party insists on qualifying as "political favoritism" and that motivates its resource before the Supreme Court.
In parallel, Vox has communicated that this Tuesday it has directly requested from the contracting body the review and annulment of the Government's contracts with the companies PALCO (Cuba) and NEORIS (based in Miami), awarded services to expedite the processing of the files of those requesting Spanish nationality.
MORE ACTIONS AGAINST THE 'GRANDCHILDREN'S LAW'
The same sources from Vox advance that they will promote new initiatives to try to stop the provision of the Democratic Memory Law known as the 'grandchildren's law'. So far, among other actions, they have demanded before the Secretary of State for Justice the challenge of the ministerial instruction of 2022 which, in their opinion, expands access to nationality beyond what is established in the Democratic Memory Law, by extending it to descendants of emigrants for economic reasons and not only political ones.
Likewise, they have demanded to audit and suspend the "mass" registrations in the CERA and that voting by mail from abroad be prohibited "without guarantees of identity and custody"; furthermore, they have launched various initiatives both in Parliament and in Brussels.
Vox has constituted a working group formed by the deputy general secretary of Vox, Montserrat Lluís; the leader of the European delegation of Vox, Jorge Buxadé; the director of the Disenso Foundation, Jorge Martín Frías; and the deputy secretary of Political Action, Ignacio de Hoces.
